About us

Our narrative deals with the protagonist seeking her father’s approval, love, respect and acknowledgement. The protagonist (Noni) suffers from Post-traumatic stress disorder caused by her past abusive experiences from her father. The father (David) resorts to emotionally and physically hurting her to get his point across, which is wanting her to do better for herself. When a timid young woman is unable to break free from her abusive father, she resorts to the extreme to release herself from the imprisonment of her state of mind. The protagonist now feels that her and her father cannot co-exist.

The project therefore explores gender based violence and the long/short term effects it can have on a person, mentally and physically. Abuse is something that constantly occurs in South Africa. To highlight this fact, 16 days of activism against gender based violence is a tradition which takes place from the 1-16th of December every year. Abuse related trauma can develop after a person has been hurt and/or neglected, usually in childhood. Abuse can come in many different forms, be it: sexually, emotionally or physically. This could lead to overwhelming feelings of distress, fear and helplessness. Traumatic events can also change the way your brain and body works, your emotions; memory; the way you think and even down to the relationships that you might build. It is said that women most often develop the effects of trauma if they were trapped by abuse and left to feel helpless and with no power.

Our experimental film works to shine a light on this topic and bring awareness to the fact that more and more children are getting abused by their parents and women by their partners. With that being said, our aim is to make a positive change in society and a film that will change the perception of predators, make them feel uncomfortable and ultimately make them stop!
